Lung screenings can help detect tumors early on, while they are still small enough to be removed. Experts suggest making a four-step “Quit Plan” to help beat your nicotine addiction.

1) Understand how cigarette addiction works.

2) Develop a quit plan, possibly including a nicotine patch or gum to ease the transition.

3) Choose a quit date and stick to it.

4) Slip-ups are common, but don’t let them detract you from why you decided to quit in the first place.
