Breast Cancer Awareness Month Tips From AA Health Department

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Anne Arundel County Department of Health is offering information and support to county residents. Detecting such cancer early is necessary in fighting it.

Learn to Live, a program of the Department of Health, offers health kits for women in the county. The kit’s got information on cancer screenings, lifestyle tips and other topics on women’s health.

Leading an overall healthy life is one way to potentially reduce the risk of cancer:

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Eat a balanced diet
  • Stay active
  • Avoid tobacco
  • Limit alcohol

The Department of Health says women should discuss mammograms with their doctors at age 40, and by age 50, should have regular mammograms. Free mammograms and breast exams are available for eligible Anne Arundel County Women.

For a Women’s health Kit, call Learn to Live at 410-222-7979 or visit the Learn to Live website.
