‘Good Food is Good Health’ Luncheon to Spotlight Sustainable Food on Sept. 23

Access to healthy food will be the focus of the Good Food is Good Health luncheon, scheduled for September 23 in Long Beach.

The event, hosted by Long Beach Fresh in collaboration with the office of Rep. Alan Lowenthal, D-Long Beach, is meant to showcase sustainable food innovation for health and child care institutions in the greater Long Beach area, according to a press release.

“We’re excited to bring together Long Beach’s healthcare institutions with local innovators who are turning good food into good health,” said Long Beach Fresh co-director Ryan Smolar.

The luncheon will include a diverse panel of speakers, including LA Kitchen’s Robert Egger, Patti Oliver of UCLA Medical Center and Health Care Without Harm, and MaxLove Project’s Audra Wilford.

Local chef Paul Buchanan of Primal Alchemy will cater the farm-to-table lunch.

The event is expected to bring in representatives from hospitals, nursing facilities, child care institutions, elected officials, chefs and nutritionists.

“The demand for local food, from school kids all the way through to senior citizens, will provide forward-thinking communities with a real opportunity to create a vibrant, enriching local food system, and all the economic opportunities that come along with it,” said Robert Egger, president and founder of L.A. Kitchen.
