Is YOUR city healthy? Surprising map reveals Kansas is home to the healthiest community of Americans

If health is a priority, then you should book a one-way ticket to San Francisco, California.

The Golden City is once again the healthiest city in the US, with the most running and walking trails.

This is according to Wallethub, which ranked 174 of the most populated cities in the nation based on 40 different factors, including cost of a doctor visit, death rates and fruit and vegetable consumption.

Although Kansas is not the poster child for health, the report revealed one of its cities has the lowest percentage of physically unhealthy adults.

The least healthy city was Brownsville, Texas – despite having one of the most affordable medical costs – followed by Laredo, Texas.

Wallethub, a personal finance website, revealed San Francisco has the most running and walking trails, ranked number five with the most healthy restaurants, and ranked top three with the lowest percentage of adults not eating enough fruits and vegetables per day.

Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; San Diego, California; and Washington DC, rounded out the top five healthy states in the US.

Brownsville, Texas, which was the second least healthy city in the US last year, is now the most unhealthy city this year, and is one of the states with fewer green space areas.

The bottom five cities, which are located in the south, also included Laredo, Texas,  Augusta, Georgia; Shreveport, Lousiana; and Gulfport, Mississippi.

Coincidentally, these states have the highest percentage of adults who do not meet the national physical activity recommendations for aerobic activity and muscle strengthening, according to The State of Obesity report released in 2017.

Brownsville, Laredo and Corpus Christi are three cities in Texas that made the top 10 unhealthy cities in the nation.

Texas has the eight highest adult obesity in the nation, with 33.7 percent of the the adult population being obese, according to The State of Obesity.

That rate is up from 21.7 percent in 2000 and 10.7 percent in 1990.
