Tom Brady’s mom gets some good news about her health in fight against cancer

It’s probably safe to say that whenever Tom Brady‘s career eventually ends, the Patriots’ victory over the Falcons in Super Bowl LI will likely go down as the most emotional win of the quarterback’s career.

Not only did Brady engineer a 25-point comeback in the game, but he did it while playing in front of his mom, Galynn, who almost missed the Super Bowl due to health reasons. Just 18 months before the game, Galynn had been diagnosed with cancer, and no one in the family was sure if she would be able to attend Super Bowl LI.

In the months since that Super Bowl win, things have only gotten better for Gayle Brady. During an interview with the Boston Globe this week, Tom Brady Sr. offered a health update on his wife, and he had some encouraging news: Gayle’s cancer treatments ended two months ago.

“She is doing great,” Brady Sr. said. “She is getting out and playing golf and tennis and looks wonderful.”

After her cancer diagnosis, Gaylnn started a round of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, which made it nearly impossible to travel. For the first time in her life, Galynn didn’t attend a single Patriots game during the season, and just days before the Super Bowl, it wasn’t even clear if she would be able to attend that game. Brady wasn’t sure if his mom would get clearance from her doctors to make the long flight from San Francisco to Houston.

As a matter of fact, when Brady held his final press conference before Super Bowl LI on Feb. 2, the Patriots quarterback still didn’t know if if his mom would be able to attend the game.

“I’m still hopeful,” Brady said when asked if his mom would be in Houston. “I’m not sure, but yeah, hopeful. That’s a good word.”

In the end, Gayle was able to attend the game, and after she arrived in Houston, Brady shared a touching picture on Instagram that featured his mom being showered with kisses from her son and her husband, Tom Sr.

The best part for the Brady family is that in the only game Gayle would be able to attend all season, she got to watch her son pull off the comeback of a lifetime in New England’s 34-28 overtime win.

After the game, there were several heartwarming moments between members of the family, including a touching hug between Galynn and Brady’s wife, Gisele.

Tom Brady’s mom, Galynn, got a big hug from Gisele after Super Bowl LI.

With Gayle’s cancer in remission, Brady Sr. says the family now only has one hope: that she remains cancer-free.

“I think in the dark recesses of every cancer survivor is the thought it could reappear,” Brady Sr. said. “We simply pray now that after her treatment it never rears its ugly head again.”
